Fundraising and Donations

How are Air Cadets funded?

There are no fees involved in becoming an Air Cadet. The government of Canada and the civilian Air Cadet League fund the basic operation of all cadet organizations. The squadrons however assist in raising funds through the following activities:

Tag Days:  Twice a year the Air Cadet League runs a province-wide Tag Day in which all squadrons participate.The Air Cadet squadrons help raise funds to support their flying training.

Sweepstakes:  The Air Cadet League also sponsors a sweepstakes raffle every Spring for valuable cash prizes and a new car. The funds raised from this sweepstakes go directly towards the costs of operating the 60+ aircraft fleet used for cadet glider training. All cadet squadrons participate in ticket sales and as incentive they receive back a portion of the funds they raise.

Local Funding

The above funding only covers the basic squadron operations. All other cadets activities and training opportunities are funded by the squadron itself - more specifically by the parent-run Squadron Sponsoring Committee.

The Fundraising sub-committee is tasked with finding new and creative ways of approaching local government, businesses and service groups for financial assistance. Parents are encouraged to meet with sub-committee members and bring to their attention any opportunities that they may know about in their workplace.

Donations

Donations are also gratefully accepted. 140 Squadron is a registered charitable organization, and is a member of the United Way as well as listed in the CanadaHelps.org directory.

United Way:  During the United Way season you can designate the 140 Squadron as the beneficiary of your United Way payroll deducation or donation. Just specify it on the form and include the Registration number as 13038 7665 RR0038.
