Parents - Getting InvolvedThe great success achieved by the Canadian cadet organizations over the years is the result of a close co-operation between the Canadian Forces and its various civilian partners. To run a successful cadet corps, a Commanding Officer requires the support of a dynamic and resourceful Squadron Sponsoring Committee. 140 Squadron's Sponsoring Committee - or SSC - is run by the cadet parents. The SSC's main function is to facilitate the operation of the squadron. It handles the finances for the squadron and also runs various sub-committee initiatives such as fund-raising and recruitment. The SSC also runs this web site on behalf of the squadron.
How Can Parents Help?Being a parent-run organization, the SSC depends on the support of parents willing to lend a few hours a month to help run the squadron and assist in its growth. Meetings are held once a month on the first Tuesday of the month - see the Calendar for details. All parents are greatly encouraged to attend and participate as active members. Parents are also encouraged to get involved in the squadron - Volunteers are always appreciated, and the various Sub-Committees are always interested in a helping hand. Note that some volunteer positions may require the parent to first be "screened" as a security precaution - most parents appreciate knowing the cadet organization is very concerned for the security and safety of the cadets. In addition to the above, qualified individuals may be interested in applying for a position directly with the squadron as a Civilian Instructor or even as a Squadron Officer. Both positions demand a signficant commitment of time however they can offer a very rewarding "part-time career." |
