Parent Involved Events
The following Squadron events are considered family events, where parents are welcome to attend. In some cases, siblings are welcome as well, and this is noted where appropriate. CO’s ParadesHeld the first Tuesday of every month at final parade. Final parade starts at about 8:50 pm and ends about 9:30 pm. CO’s Parade highlights include a march past, inspection, special guests, promotions and other special presentations. Make it a point to stay after the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) meeting, held this night every month, to watch CO’s Parade. Siblings and other family members are welcome. Annual General Meeting (AGM)Held in September each year, the Annual General Meeting is the culmination of the previous SSC year and the beginning of the new year. A final financial report is presented and elections for two members of the slate for the Executive are held. Parents are welcome and attendance is strongly encouraged.
Cultural PartyHeld the last training night of the year, this party is the Squadron’s celebration of all of the holidays of several different cultures at the end of the year, and of the end of the first half of the cadet year. Parents, siblings and other family members are welcome, and each family is asked to bring a meal entrée or dessert that reflects their culture’s traditions in December. Donations of toys and/or non perishable foods are collected for holiday toy and food drives. Meet and GreetHeld at different times of the year, an opportunity for cadets, parents and staff to meet and share a good time. A dance for cadets, as well as other entertainment, is organized by the cadets with minimal assistance from the staff. Friends, family and other cadet units are invited, and parental attendance is welcomed. Annual Awards BanquetThe Annual Awards Banquet is a formal dinner in a “Mess Dinner” format held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 385 in Aurora. Family, friends and other cadet units are invited, and attendance is encouraged. Annual awards as well as attendance and long service awards are presented. Prizes are raffled, and after dinner, there is a dance.
Squadron BBQHeld at Simeon Park on the first Friday night in June, the Squadron BBQ is an opportunity for the SSC to thank the staff and parents for all of their hard work during the year, and for the cadets to unwind after a long year. The SSC provides the hamburgers and sausages, and asks parents to bring a side dish or dessert. Weather permitting, sports events like baseball are encouraged, so bring your equipment! |
